Security Guidance for MoD Personnel

The minister stated that the MoD is “looking into” cars from China within its fleets, however emphasised that security is a concern in all modern vehicles.

We have a collection of tens of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles represent a tiny fraction.
But regardless of if you’re driving a Chinese car or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our staff is not to plug MoD devices into their vehicle, to avoid having discussions at a classified classification in any vehicle, because of the increasing risks of eavesdropping that are present in every single vehicle, to only have those confidential conversations in secure locations. This is a wise and reasonable thing for everyone concerned about safety.

After it was suggested that it would be prudent for the MoD to cease using every cars from China, the minister replied: That is exactly what we’re investigating at the moment.”
